Web Interface

The web interface is divided into two parts. The main menu is located on the left hand side in form of vertical icons, while submenus are then displayed on the top in form of tabs. The "Status" entry, simply lists the state of the device and anything attached to it.


The "Network Settings" icon covers DHCP and Wireless setup of the WMU-6500FS. All of these have been set during the initial wizard, so there is no need to change anything unless it is not working correctly.



The third icon gives you access to the internal hard drive, with the first tab showing you the partitions and giving you the possibility of formating each partition. The second tab, named "File Sharing" is very important for larger networks, which use multiple workgroups, while the third gives you complete control over user access to the device. You may set up separate accounts at this point and even put a ratio system into place. Finally, there is a simple file browser to access the content of the hard drive through the web interface. You may also map a network drive in Windows to gain access to the partitions of the internal drive.


The Advanced Tools section gives you control over the state of the WMU-6500FS. You may backup the configuration, reset it - much like clearing the CMOS on a mainboard, reboot the device over the Ethernet or WiFi network and even upgrade the firmware that way.


The iTunes Server functionality is hidden under the "Misc" icon. It is disabled by default. Once enabled, the WMU-6500FS automatically starts searching for MP3s on the hard drive. These can then be accessed on your computer over iTunes. This means that your entire music collection can be stored on the external enclosure and accessed from everywhere, possibly even with an AppleTV device. The time and login settings can also be found here. A log is automatically created and lists all major events related to the device.
