Download Assistant

The "Download Assistant" is one icon which we overlooked during the tour of the web interface. This page gives you a detailed look at the functionality of the BitTorrent, HTTP and FTP "Download Agents" as AirLive calls them on the package or "Download Assistant" within the interface itself.

BitTorrent Downloader

Upon first opening the BitTorrent tab, you are asked to comply with copyright laws. This means that AirLive is not responsible if you use their hardware to download anything illegal. After this you are asked to configure what port is used and what amount of bandwidth should be allocated for the service. The maximum you may enter here is 100kb/s, which is not really a lot. If you enter -1, the WMU-6500FS will take as much bandwidth as needed, which could lead to the inability to do anything else with the internet connection.

To use the BitTorrent Assistant you need direct access to the device itself. Qnap also offers an enclosure with BitTorrent functionality, but actually includes an application to send torrent files to the enclosure from within Windows and start downloading without the need to login into the enclosure. The AirLive WMU-6500FS simply asks you to open the *.torrent file. This means you need to actually download the torrent file to your host system and then upload it to the enclosure, which then takes care of the actual download. After selecting the torrent file - in this case the newest Ubuntu release - you are told to enter a name for the job and also choose where the file is saved to. You may even enter an email address to notify you once the download is finished.

FTP & HTTP Downloader

The FTP and HTTP downloaders or assistants work very similar to the BitTorrent variant. You simply enter all the needed information and hit save. If the FTP downloader is used, you may also enter a user name and password to gain access to protected FTP servers, requiring a login.

The "Status" tab lists all the active downloads, no matter if HTTP, FTP or BitTorrent.
