Temperature Testing

Since the Samsung 950 Pro is known for its throttling when under heavy load, I tested the Wings PX1 adapter without the heatsink but a 120 mm fan blowing onto the SSD and with the heatsink installed.

The drive will quickly go into thermal protection mode, running at reduced speeds. Please note that this is with a synthetic worst-case load pattern. Typical consumer usage will rarely end up with the drive overheating.


I also took some shots with my thermal camera to check on the difference in temperatures, which resulted in 86°C on the flash controller without the heatsink vs. 48°C with the heatsink - quite a difference!
