A Closer Look - Outside
Out of the box, the Antec P101 Silent looks a little different from the P series enclosures of the past as those were usually single-colored and symmetrical in design. However, the P101 Silent sports a splash of white on the front door, which gives it an asymmetrical look. This is not at all a bad thing, but simply a change.
The door swings open to the right, which is important as most people will place their chassis to the right of their monitor. The white elements are actually air channels for the three pre-installed 120 mm fans to pull fresh air into the case. They are protected by an easily removable dust filter.
The interior of the door is lined with sound dampening material, which we have seen in previous enclosures of the silent series from Antec as well.
Looking at the rear, the only unique element is the choice of alternating black and white expansion slot covers, which is a pretty fun touch to be honest. Both sides of the P101 Silent are completely solid and made out of metal. This is to ensure utmost sound encapsulation. They are both held in place by traditional thumb screws.
The very bottom of the chassis is meant for the PSU. Antec includes a mounting frame for easy assembly here. Above that are the eight removable and reusable expansion slot covers, with the very top holding a fourth 140 mm fan. This brings the total number of cooling units within the chassis to four, which is quite the impressive number.
The top of the P101 Silent is completely solid as well, but Antec also placed the I/O in the top of the front panel frame. Here, you will find the power and reset buttons, a fan controller slider, audio I/O, and four USB ports—two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0. Interesting here are the built-in LEDs around these ports, so you should have no issue finding them even in the darkest environments, and this lighting element also acts as a power LED to let you know the system is up and running.
