Art. Lebedev Mus2 Review

Performance

The mouse and its pad make a perfect fit.

The first thing I tried out was its range. The package and manual states a range of two meters or 6.6 feet. I was not able to use the mouse beyond one meter. This is definitely not far enough for any wireless mouse.

The mouse does feel much better than one might think when looking at it. The two tiny buttons at the tip of the device do take some getting used to, but work very good. The pressure point of these is a bit higher than other mice.

Its subjective performance is nothing stellar and can be compared to low end gaming or office mice. It uses an optical sensor, while high-end mice use laser nowadays. This device is definitely a design object, but is definitely no good for prolonged use.

Art. Lebedev has created a mouse which is perfect for the "artsy" type, who are looking for a designer mouse to top of their designer HTPC - the kind of people not looking for any kind of performance or do not use the system for much else except to change the current song playing or to control the playback of a movie.

Value and Conclusion

  • The Art. Lebedev Mus2 sells for around 50 €, which would be comparable to the price tag of a high end gaming mouse. This is definitely a lot of money to spend for such a designer piece.
  • Very exclusive look
  • Includes a fitting mouse pad
  • Good build quality mouse
  • Batteries are included
  • Available in black & white
  • Very limited range of max. 1m
  • White variant will discolor easily
  • USB dongle construction quality not very good
  • Prolonged use uncomfortable
  • High price
  • No scroll wheel

The Art. Lebedev Studios have taken the "mouse pointer" that we see every day on our screen and put it on our desks as the tool to move the mouse pointer. It does look great on any desk, but the short range will limit its use severely. If you manage to get a stable connection and use the mouse for short periods at a time, this is definitely a nice addition to any designer PC in the living room for example. I will not give the Mus2 a score, as it cannot be compared to the price, performance or comfort of its normal counterparts. The mouse is a unique designer accessory which will sure draw looks when spotted on your desk.
