PCB Analysis

ASRock has customized their PCB, clearly to optimize for cost. They're using six phases for GPU and one phase for memory.

The IR3567B voltage controller handles GPU voltage. It feeds its six PWM phase signals into a combination of a single Magnachip MDU1517 (high-side) MOSFET and two Magnachip MDU1514 (low-side) for each phase. Other vendors use highly integrated chips for this task, which increases heat density and cost. ASRock chose to keep things simple and easy to cool because heat is spread out over a larger area.

The single-phase memory VRM is controlled by the same IR3567B which handles GPU voltage. This controller has the ability to support two circuits, so ASRock is using the second one to control memory, which helps with cost.

Graphics Card Memory Chips

The GDDR5 memory chips are made by Micron and carry the model number D9VVR, which decodes to MT51J256M32HF-80:B. They are specified to run at 2000 MHz (8000 MHz GDDR5 effective).

Graphics Chip GPU

The Radeon RX 580 uses the same Ellesmere GPU as the Radeon RX 480, each transistor is identical. The only difference is in their manufacturing process, which has been refined and now happens at Samsung and GlobalFoundries. The transistor count is 5.7 billion and the die size is 232 mm².
