Storage Performance

There are many ASMedia external data controllers present on the ASRock X299 GAMING i9. There's the ASM1061 SATA 6 Gbps controller, which adds the two additional SATA ports, and an ASMedia ASM1074 for rear-panel USB 3.1 Gen1 duties.

We then find an ASmedia ASM1184e PCIe switch that somehow plays a role with external devices, along with an ASM3142 USB 3.1 Gen2 controller that pushes the 3.1 Gen2 Type-A and Type-C combo port on the rear panel. The ASM1184e PCIe switch is right next to the bundled WiFi controller and is presumably tied in with that and perhaps the ASM1074; yet if it is, it works well enough so as not to be noticeable at all.

There is another ASM3142 controller for the USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C front-panel connector, which supports 35W charging capabilities for cases that provide such ports. Those cases are still few and far between right now.
