Introduction

We've taken a look at the middle and the high-end, and today, we get a look at the entry-level (although not perfectly entry-level) X299 motherboard from ASRock, the ASRock X299 Killer SLI/ac. That name might give the wrong impression; there are no KillerNIC controllers present on THIS motherboard; rather, we've got a tasty Intel i219V LAN controller on this board.

So, of course, that leaves me a bit confused... what makes this board "Killer' then? Is it the VRM design, the slot layout, the connectivity features? The bundled Wi-Fi? To be completely honest, I'm not entirely sure. That makes this board very interesting to me, especially given that name, which to me does imply that there is a KillerNIC LAN controller here. Yet there is not one. Not even anything remotely close.

So we've got to investigate this now, don't we? With the lowest retail pricing right now out of any of the ASRock X299 motherboards, the ASRock X299 Killer SLI/ac offers a considerable feature set, including that bundled Wi-Fi many other boards in the same price category lack, making it stand out among the crowd of "affordable" Intel X299 motherboards. Perhaps it is ready to kill the competition? Perhaps, so... let's take a look!
