First and foremost, the Asus Cerberus V2 is a clear upgrade over its predecessor. It's more comfortable, sturdier, prettier to look at, and sounds a bit better. However, that was to be expected. We also need to examine it as its own product.
The greatest strength of the Asus Cerberus V2 is its comfort. Even though it isn't very light, the dual-headband design and big ear pads that will completely surround your ears regardless of their size make the weight a non-issue. I had no trouble using it for over five hours at a time - and I wasn't convinced that would be the case when I first felt its weight.
Even though it aspires to also be used outdoors, I don't think that's something you should be considering it for. It's too bulky for that, isn't foldable, and its steel headband will resonate inside the ear cups when you're walking. Sure, you won't be able to hear that while music is playing, but you'll feel it as it will translate into ear fatigue.
As for sound quality, I understand what Asus was aiming for. Massive bass sells and is often the only thing someone on the market for a gaming headset will look for. If you're one of those, then by all means, go for the Cerberus V2. In case you're looking for a sound that's going to be more natural and balanced, as well as adjusted for accurate spatial positioning and a wide array of music genres, the Cerberus V2 won't be your cup of tea. Same goes for buyers looking for a headset with a microphone that's going to be good enough for Twitch streaming and YouTube voiceovers. This isn't it.
The current price of the Cerberus V2 is placed at around $75, with the Cerberus V1 costing $50. I think it's only a matter of time before the Cerberus V2 drops to $50 as well. If and when that happens, it's going to be a much more reasonable purchase than it currently is. That's the thing with the $70 price category in the world of headsets - the competition is extremely stiff, and every drawback needs to be looked at through a magnifying glass.
