Shape

Compared to the Gladius and Gladius II, the Gladius III has received some changes to the shape. Much like its predecessors, the Gladius III isn't just large, but also tall. The entire front including the main buttons sits much higher than on other right-handed ergonomic mice, leading to a fuller feel in hand. Furthermore, the left side has plenty of space for the thumb, especially since it's almost entirely straight vertically. Whereas the back flares out quite a bit towards the right side, the front has lost most of its flare, ending up much narrower than on the Gladius or Gladius II. The hump, on the other hand, is still centered and gradually slopes down towards both ends, though the front stays tall regardless. Depending on whether one grips the Gladius III more towards the front or the back, grip width varies quite a bit, making the Gladius III rather flexible when it comes to hand size. Whereas the Gladius I and II were clearly identifiable as a take on the Razer DeathAdder, the Gladius III approaches a taller and fuller Zowie EC. Overall, a fairly original design that works well in practice.

As for grip styles, I'd say the Gladius III is suitable for both palm and claw grip. It's a large mouse with a fairly pronounced hump, which makes it suit larger hands. For reference, my hands are 19 cm long and 10 cm wide, and I found the Gladius III very comfortable in claw grip.

This table includes the dimensions of the ASUS ROG Gladius III and several other right-handed ergonomic mice. "Front height" denotes the distance between the base and main buttons. Measurements with two decimals have been taken with a caliper, while those with one decimal have been taken with a ruler.
