ASUS ZenBeam Latte L1 Review

A Closer Look

Out of the box and pouch, the Asus ZenBeam Latte L1 is certainly small. Clocking in at just under 600 grams, the unit is really light, too.

Looking at the front, the first thing you will notice is the use of cloth to wrap the round unit. The lens in the very top is slightly off-center and does not have any markings.

On the rear is the IR receiver in the top half of the device. This means you ideally want the ZenBeam Latte L1 somewhere in front of you so that the remote's signals reliably reach the unit. The I/O on the base of the projector consists of a reset, headphone out, HDMI, USB 2.0, DC In and battery charging state LED. Funnily enough, the Harman/Kardon logo has been applied all crooked, and a quick Google image search reveals that this is not a one-off, either.

On the one side of the ZenBeam Latte, you will find what looks to be a small air vent and a wheel to manually adjust the auto-focus of the unit. On the opposite side is a larger vent for hot air to be pushed out of the unit by the built-in fan.

All the controls are found on top of the unit. ASUS duplicated all the buttons you will find on the remote directly on the projector as well, which could come in handy in some situations. That said, they look and feel a little too "plasticky" for a device of this type. On the underside, a rubberized base ensures that the ZenBeam Latte L1 doesn't wobble easily, and there is also a kickstand to angle the device slightly upward. This is quite useful as the odds that the unit is placed on the floor somewhere are fairly high. That said, ASUS could have made the angle slightly more prominent by providing a larger flap.

The PSU only weighs around 160 grams, while the remote comes in at just under 60 grams. Based on the functional parts, this means the entire setup will only weigh around 800 grams.
