Final Thoughts and Conclusion

  • The Biostar Racing Z370GT6 is available for US$139.99.
  • Solid out-of-box performance
  • Included M.2 cooling solution
  • Useful, unbloated Racing GT EVO utility
  • Gorgeous black and gold aesthetic
  • Spotty XMP support
  • Dated and frustrating BIOS
  • Rear I/O connectivity sparse
The Biostar Racing Z370GT6 is a beautiful board at a beautiful price. It isn't perfect by a long shot since XMP compatibility issues and a dated BIOS really cramp its style. For the right user, though, it might just be the perfect board. It's still far too early into the lifespan of this platform to definitively call any board perfect, but I believe Biostar is moving in the right direction. The RAM issues are systemic of these Biostar boards, and while your mileage may vary, I would not count on attaining higher than stock speeds with this board. So with that going against it, why do I think this board has a solid place within the market?

Well, Biostar does and has done one thing consistently well for a long time now, which is to know their market. At just under $140, the Biostar Z370GT6 is comparatively priced considering its feature set. While a lack of SLI support and a pretty sparse rear I/O offering seem like deal breakers at first glance, many users looking at this price point will never notice these apparent deficiencies. The Biostar Racing Z370GT6 holds its own when it comes down to overclocking and power consumption; however, the cluttered BIOS is still frustrating to use.

Consider Intel's latest offering of the i5-8400 - a six core, six thread chip that is quite affordable and targets the 1080p gaming market. Pair it with the Biostar Racing Z370GT6 and a basic 16 GB RAM kit, and you have a winning combination. As for the rear I/O; I was put out initially as well until I took a quick peek at my own system and realized that I could trade out boards and still have a slot or two open, and that's completely discounting the almost silly number of front USB headers on this board. The bottom line is that the Biostar Racing Z370GT6 is an attractive board that performs well out of the box without breaking the bank. So long as you know what to expect and don't overestimate its capabilities, you will not be disappointed.
