A Closer Look

Cellshock has decided to go with blue heatspreaders on their new high-end DDR3 memory. This is certainly a very nice choice. The general shape of the spreaders is the same as with their DDR2 memory.

Both sides of the memory look identical. The only difference is an embossed Cellshock logo on one side of the modules. The heatspreaders are held together with black Torx T8 screws. From an aesthetic point of view, it would have been nice to see blue screws instead.

The Cellshock logo is quite elaborate and is edged into the thick aluminum of the heatspreader. Other companies go for thinner spreaders with embossed logos. Cellshock does it the other way around.

Another unique aspect for which Cellshock is known, is the fact that they use real thermal paste as an interface material between the heatspreaders and the memory ICs. The DIMMs are actually single sided and feature Micron D9JNL ICs.
