CES 2008: A-DATA Review

A-Data has a very nice booth on the show floor. They are showing off the PD19 and PD17 flash drives. Both are available in new colors and the PD17 can be had with up to 8GB in that tiny package. A-Data has also produced memory devices specifically for the ASUS eeePC. The Sport Series S702 with 8GB and a white SDHC card with 8GB as well.

They are also continuing the Disney line-up with a few new USB Flash memory devices. These are aimed at the younger or female buyers.

You will also find all types of memory cards at their booth. These top out at 16GB for SDHC and 32GB for Compact Flash. These are some of the highest density memory cards available for these formats on the market today.

The new Nobility, Sport and Classic series USB Flash devices were just announced at the show and can be seen here for the first time. We will be taking a close look at each of these new drives very soon.

Much like all the other manufacturers, A-DATA is offering SSD drives in various formats. You will find SATA and IDE drives as well as ExpressCard variants. The 2.5" drive is available up to 128GB, while the ExpressCard goes up to 32GB.

One very unique item is an eSATA based flash drive. This is much like a USB 2.0 based drive, but uses eSATA as the interface standard. This translates into normal speeds, comparable to hard drives. The downside is the fact, that you cannot connect the device directly to the eSATA port, but need to use an included cable to connect to the port as well as an additional USB port for power.

Last but not least, there is the new DDR3 line-up. These memory modules use the same new heatspreader design as the DDR2 variants, but come in gunpowder black grey instead. The two parts on display are 1600 MHz CL7-7-7-18 at up to 1.85V and 2000 MHz CL9-9-9-24 at up to 2.15V.
