Cherry is not a new name to the PC peripheral market by any means, and their MX mechanical switches have been near single-handedly responsible for the growth of the mechanical keyboard market this decade. Indeed, the Cherry MX switch stem has become a universal standard to the point where Cherry switch clones or new designs now entirely adopt the stem to allow for a higher degree of keycap compatibility. While Cherry's bulk business is as an OEM who provides switches and other product solutions to partners, including Corsair and Cooler Master, for example, they also maintain a portfolio of end-user peripherals under the Cherry brand. It is their opportunity to produce a reference design that aims to be the best at what can be achieved using Cherry products, and today, we take a look at the MX Board 6.0. Thanks again to Cherry Americas for providing a review sample.
The MX Board 6.0 is not a new keyboard, having been released in 2015. However, we have only recently been contacted by the new North American marketing agency for Cherry Americas, which wanted to see TechPowerUp cover Cherry peripherals as well. Expect two more keyboards, newer than this one, coming up later this year. The MX Board 6.0 is a full-size keyboard that comes in just one switch option, which is an interesting decision by Cherry. This is also a departure from their otherwise very professional work-space design, which is perhaps too tame for the gaming keyboard market to where Cherry may have seen where the money is going, which makes this an attempt to show that they belong here too. There is more to the keyboard than just the wrist rest and red backlighting we see in the image above, so let us begin the review with a look at the specs below.
