Efficiency

Using the results we gathered so far, we plotted a chart showing the PSU's efficiency at low loads and loads ranging from 10 to 110 percent of the maximum-rated capacity.

This platform operates very efficiently, especially at light loads.

10%–110% Load Testing

These tests reveal the PSU's load regulation and efficiency levels under high ambient temperatures and show how the fan-speed profile behaves under harsh operating conditions.

This PSU's fan doesn't exceed 1000 RPM at up to the 50% load, which has output noise stay low despite high operating temperatures. Moreover, the platform delivers 110% of its maximum-rated load at 47°C for a prolonged period of time without any problems. Still, overloading this or any other PSU is not advisable, especially under increased operating temperatures; doing so will notably shorten its expected lifespan even if it survives.

Light Load Testing

In the following tests, we measure the PSU's efficiency at loads significantly lower than 10 percent of the maximum capacity—the lowest load the 80 PLUS standard measures. This is important for when a PC is idle with its power-saving features turned on.

Efficiency levels are high at light loads, and the PSU's fan doesn't spin up, so output noise is close to zero.

Ultra-Light Load Testing

The applied load in this test is only 10 W for PSUs with 500 W and less capacity. We dial in 2% of the maximum-rated capacity for all other PSUs and only run this test with 115 V input.
