Driver

The driver suite works, but is somewhat cumbersome to use when it comes to quickly setting up a macro. Navigating through the driver suite's UI is pretty intuitive, but it could do with a little refinement. It is basically the same suite as for other recent higher-end mice from CM Storm.

Performance

CM Storm's Mizar is equipped with the Avago ADNS-9800 laser sensor we have, by now, come to know pretty well. It tracks precisely at up toward its limit and can track at up to 150 inches-per-second, which is more than any normal human is capable of. The sensor is seated a little north of the middle, which makes the mouse for those who prefer a claw-type grip. The ADNS-9800 unfortunately does have a few quirks. Of these, its most annoying is the positive acceleration issue, as it basically has a tendency to overshoot by a small amount. A minor issue, it is also one a lot of gamers will never notice, especially while using the mouse with a high sensitivity setting, which it is made for.

Gaming with the Mizar is a somewhat pleasant experience. Its ergonomics work and the rubber side panels perform well in terms of improving your grip, which reduces fatigue by a small amount. But such makes the fact that some rather easily fixed issues remain all that more annoying. Had its sensor been in the middle and had CM Storm perhaps swapped it out for the perfectly performing ADNS-3090, it would have been a near-perfect gaming mouse for anyone using it at a medium-to-high sensitivity setting.

The buttons are good, but their travel-time is a bit long, which is something we have seen on a few CM Storm mice of late. Though not a deal breaker, the forward-side button is definitely the oddest button on the Mizar. In terms of ergonomics, the Mizar could also afford to be a bit bigger, which is primarily due to the fact that you have to grip it in a very specific way, unlike the IME 1.1/Mionix Avior designs where your grip can afford to be a bit less specific.
