While the red and black theme gives the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB an old school look, which means it won't appeal to everyone, it is still a well-finished, attractive kit. The light bar is bright, and the effects are pretty good. I think Colorful has done a good job in creating a baseline product that stays true to their established brand, one they can build on moving forward.
Looks aside, the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB proved to be a solid performer, at least when two kits are paired in dual channel. Tested as a single 8 Gb stick, the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB fell towards the bottom of pretty much every test. This is entirely expected as almost all modern programs are designed to take advantage of multi-channel memory configurations, and cutting the capacity in half didn't do the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB any favors either. Paired up, the sticks performed very well in many benchmarks. Given the price, it is not impractical for someone to buy two of these and run them in dual channel as I did in these test.
As to why Colorful chose to sell a single stick kit, well, there are several reasons I can think of. The first is compatibility; verifying and guaranteeing compatibility of a single stick is easier than for two sticks. This could in theory allow Colorful to have slightly looser quality control as they don't have to worry about a slight defect causing one stick to not play well with another. While I had absolutely no trouble combining two kits, and most people won't have problems either, it is still a risk. Another reason could be price; while US$90 is not chump change, it is still under that hundred dollar mark, which matters for those on a tight budget.
However, the price of memory is falling steadily, and at the time writing, you can get single 8 GB sticks for around US$60 and dual channel 16 GB kits for around US$115; both with similar XMP specifications. I like what Colorful has done here, and I am excited to see where they take this new venture, but I think for this kit, the price is just a little too high to be justifiable.
