The 3D circuit design might be a pompous marketing description, but this unit really is awesome! It easily delivered more than its full power at very high ambient and registered tight voltage regulation on all rails while keeping its ripple levels very low throughout the entire load range. It even featured an incredibly quiet operation under normal conditions, easily leading my average noise chart. I take my hat off to Enhance, though I am currently not wearing one. They did a marvelous job here. Most of their designs so far were rather boring—designs with a good but not ground-breaking performance, which also caused them to struggle against the tough competition. But they hit the jackpot with this unit by easily producing the highest efficiency I have ever measured at low load and delivering overall performance that can easily meet the high-end competition.
To wrap up, the VS series looks really promising since the V550S's performance was excellent and incredibly quiet under normal conditions. The problem I spotted during one of the turn-on transient tests wasn't enough to spoil the very good overall picture. I still think this is the perfect PSU for those who want to power a small-medium system reliably with a silent, high price/performance PSU. It is also nice to see CM back on the right track with their PSU offerings, something that started with their release of the V series and is now continuing with the VS one.
