Packaging and Accessories

The X Silent Edge Platinum comes in quite a big box, which follows the overall black theme of the series. On the back there's the list of features as well as the main specifications of the PSU.

Opening the box revels a neatly packaged unit, a cable pouch and a user manual with some additional pamphlets, regarding how to correctly install the PSU to maximize airflow.

Besides the PSU, manuals and cables the packaging includes mounting screws, a few zip ties and three Velcro ties.

Inside the box we first are greeted by a short user's manual, a bag of neatly packaged cables and the power supply itself. The accessory kit includes the modular cables, an AC cable, manual, screws, a few zip ties and a PCIe slot bracket.

The cable list, as seen in the specifications, is quite extensive, and we will have a more detailed look at them in the cabling section below.

The Silent Edge Platinum 850 W has plenty of cabling for a unit of this power output. While it does not make sense to include two 12V-2x6 cables for a unit of this size, additionally for GPU connectivity it has four PCIe 8/6 pin cables and two EPS cables for CPU power delivery. Noteworthy is that one end of the 12V-2x6 cables comes not with a straight but with a 90 degree angled connector. When it comes to peripherals, there's the option to power up to 12 SATA devices along with one cable with 4 peripheral connectors.

Each individual cable strand is textured and looks very good. For the most part the individual strands are neatly tied in two different places. As for the thickness of cables, the beefier CPU and GPU power cables are 16 AWG, while the cables powering peripherals are thinner at 18 AWG. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The cables have no inline capacitors for ripple/noise suppression.

Overall the connectivity for the Cooler Master X Silent Edge Platinum 850 W is very solid with plenty of connectors, high quality cables and sufficient lengths for larger cases.
