Cooler Master Xport 251 Review

Introduction

I would like to thank Cooler Master for supplying the review sample.

We are taking a look at the Xport 251, which is an extremely compact 2.5 inch SATA hard drive enclosure. It does not come with any frills like encryption or backup functionality. One thing you can count on with the Cooler Master enclosure is its low price tag.

The new chassis comes in two colors - silver or black. We received the latter for review.

Features:
  • HDD shockproof mounting mechanism.
  • Aluminum sand-coated surface.
  • Slim design and easy to carry portability.
  • Easy installation.
  • Support 2.5" hard drives of up to 500GB.
  • Up to 480Mbps transfer rates with USB 2.0.
  • Up to 1.5Gbps (SATA 1.5) / 3.0Gbps (SATA 3.0) transfer rates with eSATA.
  • Plug & Play and hot-swap capability.
  • Understated LED indicator for power/HDD activity.

Packaging

Cooler Master packs the Xport 251 in a small full color package with their signature white backdrop in combination with the small purple corner. There is an image of the Xport 251 on the front, with further information about the device and its accessories on the rear of the box. It is held in place by two small foam spacers, packed into a black pouch.

Contents

Along with the enclosure, you will receive a USB cable with two connectors to draw the required power, a small screw driver and two rubber spacers for the hard drive. A manual and the afore mentioned pouch round up the extras for the Xport 251. We have seen other, very similar enclosures sell for as little as 10 US Dollars. The Xport 251 is more expensive, but does ship with more accessories.
