Value and Conclusion

  • The Coolmax PS-224 LCD Power Supply Tester can be had for $29.99 US Dollars.
  • Bright and easy to read LCD
  • Very good build quality
  • No seperate power source needed
  • Compact
  • Easy to use
  • Wide variety of connectors
  • More expensive than other, similar units out there
  • Instructions not supplied with product
  • No support for 8-pin PCIe testing
  • SATA connector not clearly labeled
  • Not really a scientific instrument
The Coolmax PS-224 does exactly what you would expect it to do. Its sole purpose is to test your power supply and to let you know what voltage it actually delivers. It does so well and the backlit display is easy to read and should come in handy when crawling around under your desk to check that PSU of yours. We would have liked to see an 8 pin PCI-E power connector to accommodate the newest generation of PSU. Even though this is a simple gadget, a manual with some information of what readings are within ATX specifications would have been a nice addition. Considering the price tag of just under 30 US Dollars and the potential to take out a lot of guesswork when troubleshooting a PC, the value of the Coolmax PS-224 should not be understated. We would have liked to see the unit priced a bit lower, as similar units from other manufacturers cost up to $9 less around the internet.
