Cooltek Coolcube Black Review

Assembly

Installing the motherboard within the Coolcube is quite simple. There is plenty of space around the board, so you do not have to force things. One should naturally install any components, like heatsink and memory, before putting the board in place.

The second step consists of installing the power supply. Due to the compact nature of the chassis, connecting everything before installing the PSU is vital here as well. As you can see, the standard sized ATX unit fits into the Coolcube just fine, but those who use modular ones need to ensure that the package does not end up being too large.

With everything but the storage drives in place, this is the last step in the assembly process. Cooltek is using the entire underside of the case to hold drives. You may install up to two units here, which should be plenty for most scenarios. As you can see, I have chosen to install a 3.5" storage drive and an SSD as a boot drive. All drives are mounted with screws and rubber rings that act as anti-vibration measures.

Once the drives are in place, you need to connect them properly before putting the floor of the chassis and, thus, the drives into place. It all works quite nicely, which can be attributed to the simple interior layout.

Finished Looks

Once everything is in place, the chassis can easily be closed. Things are quite tight internally, but that is to be expected with a case of this size. Turning the case around, the rear clearly shows the large PSU along with the rear motherboard I/O. You should, if you want to, be able to put a short dual-slot graphics card inside the case to achieve enough performance for casual gaming on the big screen.

A blue LED lights up as soon as you power the system on, and a secondary LED lights up red every time the hard drive is accessed. This chimes well with the overall design and looks quite cool.
