Packaging and Accessories

Corsair sent over a starter kit of the iCUE Link RX120 RGB, and we see this comes in a more typical box shape compared to the longer and flatter QX120 RGB starter kit which has the fans already connected and ready to go—this is probably more convenient for shipping and for retail sales too with the hang tag at the top. The starter kit has three fans inside and everything else needed to get you going. You can also purchase the fans individually as "expansion kits" and they also come in black or white colors to ensure you can have an all-black, all-white, or a black-and-white color scheme going on with your PC build. On the front is the company logo and product name, a render of the fans inside, and salient features listed. More illustrations are seen on the back to go with fan specs—which are slightly different from what's on the product page, Corsair needs to fix this ASAP—and other relevant marketing features. A list of contents is found on the side where we also see seals keeping the product box intact. Opening the box from either the top or bottom reveals the three fans packed on top of each other without using individual containers as before, and there is only a single thin cardboard strip between them. I am not sure this is the way to go since fans are so susceptible to fall damage and courier mishaps!

Some of the accessories are found underneath and others on top of the top-most fan, so once again it feels like a big step down from the unboxing experience you get with the QX120 RGB fans. Thankfully everything seemed still good to go on my end, and we see paperwork in the form of a warranty guide and safety compliance sheet. There is also a QR code on the box leading you to online instructions, given Corsair seems to be shifting away from printed user manuals now. The iCUE Link system hub comes wrapped in plastic to keep it pristine out of the box and is a square puck in form factor as seen above. It employs a plastic chassis with the Corsair logo on the top and has rubber feet on the corner at the bottom in addition to the input and output power ratings. On two of the sides we see an iCUE Link port each with a third side containing a 6-pin power in, micro-USB data in, and 2-pin tach out (for CPU coolers to connect to the CPU fan header on your motherboard). We also get the so-called QuikTurn mounting screws which use fewer threads than usual to save time when installing multiple fans in a system, double-sided tape to install the system hub inside your PC case, and some spare bridge connectors for the fans in addition to the cables themselves.

Corsair provides two different length iCUE link cables with two male iCUE link connectors on the ends, one cable has a straight and a right-angled connector whereas the other opts for two right-angled connectors as seen above. We also get a 15 cm 6-pin PCIe power cable adapter for power as well as a 30 cm micro-USB to 9-pin internal USB 2.0 adapter cable helping you use the system hub with the fans as we will see on the next page.
