When I heard about the Corsair K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE, I wasn't very excited at all. I thought it was just going to be another RGB keyboard, and I didn't think that the quicker actuation point on these Cherry switches would make that much of a difference. It is somewhat hard for me to admit, but I was wrong. After using the K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE as my main keyboard for a while, the Cherry MX Speed Silver switches do actually feel faster to me when gaming; it is almost like the keyboard is preempting what you'll do since you only need to brush the key with your finger for it to activate. The K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE didn't instantly make me an awesome gamer since I am a casual gamer now, but when I did play competitively, I did everything I could to improve my chances against my opponents, and had this keyboard been available then, I would have made the purchase to increase my chances of winning. Typing on it was a little cumbersome for me at first, but that is most probably due to me being so used to my other keyboards which all use the heavy Cherry MX Greens; using a switch that is so light and has such a low actuation point took some getting used to. After writing this review on nothing but the Corsair K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE, I have had enough time to get used to the switches, and I can now type just as well on it than on any of my other boards, even if I am slightly slower.

Other than the switches, I want to bring to your attention how impressive the CUE software is; I hadn't actually used it yet and was very impressed with how many customization options are available. Macros are very simple to create, and all the functions you would expect to be at their disposal make an appearance, such as several timing options. The RGB LED controls are very impressive. There is a lot of depth to these options, but if you want a simple color for the whole keyboard and nothing else, you can do so; or create something a little more impressive instead. The options are there and you can share your creations with other Corsair K70 RGB users.

The only negative comment I can make is that some of the key caps are of a non-standardized size, which makes customizing the keycaps a little difficult. This is just a personal preference, though, as I like to modify my keyboards. For most, this certainly isn't a problem, and for those looking to change their keycaps, there are plenty of websites where single keys rather than whole sets can be ordered.

Overall, I am very impressed with the Corsair K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE. Corsair has taken a winning formula for gaming peripherals and has taken it just a little further. Companies such as Razer have done similar things in the past, but not to such an extent. Corsair's exclusive partnership with Cherry will last 6 months, after which we can expect to see other brands with products that use this switch. So if you are not a fan of Corsair, you should still chance upon other products that use these switches eventually. Partnerships such as this one help with the introduction of new switches, and although more choice can create more confusion, there are now more options from among which to pick for that perfect switch.

With a price tag of $170, people might be put off, which could have them look elsewhere, but I think that the price is justified since Corsair has really thought about what the customer wants with this keyboard by including such features as the wrist rest and front and back feet to make utilizing it as comfortable as possible, and there is the USB pass-through to ensure that we are given back a port even though it takes 2 USB cables to use all these functions. With a software suite as complete as CUE, you are only limited by your imagination in terms of LED profiles, macros, and functionality. If you are a serious gamer looking to make sure you're not limited by your hardware, the Corsair K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE should seriously be considered.
