Initial impression

There is an illustrated single-page user's manual that can also be found online on Cougar's official webpage. It mostly consists of drawings in black and white; you should pay attention to these since there is no written text. We also came across lots of acronyms for different types of leather (most of which are synthetic) and are pretty sure not everyone will know what these stand for or what their advantages and disadvantages are. We are curious by nature and hence conducted a search online and came up with a very elaborate table. In the table below, you will find out exactly what each acronym stands for, and it does also include all the important details when it comes to these materials.

Material - AcronymsAdvantagesDisadvantages

Natural Leather is divided into different categories:

Full-Grain, Top-Grain, Bonded Leather, and Split Leather
  • Easily cleaned
  • Less wasteful because a by-product of the animal industry
  • Occasionally more durable than synthetic leather
  • Cruel to animals - unethical in the eyes of some
  • Production introduces chemicals to the environment
  • No one can be completely sure of the quality since "Genuine Leather" as a tag could also mean "not of the best quality, though real leather"
  • Pricey
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Leather
  • No animal cruelty
  • Durable
  • Easily cleaned
  • Fade and stain resistant
  • Vegan-ecological
  • Affordable
  • Occasionally easily torn
  • Not breathable
  • Produced with potentially carcinogenic chemicals
Polyurethane (PU) Leather
  • No animal cruelty
  • Durable
  • Easily cleaned
  • Fade and stain resistant
  • Vegan-ecological
  • Affordable
  • Occasionally easily torn
  • Not breathable
  • Produced with chemicals

The Cougar Armor gaming chair is covered with PVC leather, and if synthetic leather of any type is used instead of the real thing, it had better be proven to be of good quality to make sure it keeps up well over the long haul, which seems to be the case here. The black and orange upholstery of the Armor gaming chair is attractive and definitely left a good impression on us; we did rush to assemble the Armor in order to try it out right after we had removed the plastic cover and got to feel its quality - its PVC leather is very smooth to the touch.

Nothing is set in stone, though, until we have had a chance to try this chair out for a while. This is why we fully evaluate every gaming chair that arrives for at least a month, with more than three people checking it out and sharing with us their thoughts and opinions. The Armor's overall external design and appearance classify it as a gaming chair. Both its sports seat bucket looks and vivid orange color make it look nothing like an office chair.

Assembly

Reading the manual at least once is advisable. As mentioned, Cougar's user's manual contains no written passages. Even if you have assembled enough chairs in the past, there is always a good chance of skipping over something in the process, which might bring you into the unfortunate position of having to completely take the chair apart to start all over again.

The caster wheels need to be squeezed into the five-star plastic base - make sure to press down firmly. The hydraulics need to be put onto the five-star base, and the dust cover for the telescopic gas lift cylinder is placed on top of the hydraulics. The tilt/height adjustment mechanism needs to be installed under the sitting base, along with the armrests, and the sitting area must be aligned on top of the tilt mechanism. The backrest should be installed last.

We had to screw twelve screws in; eight into the bottom of the sitting base for the armrests and the tilt mechanism that need to be assembled first and two at each side of the seat's mount covers. The metal brackets of the sitting base need to be aligned with the holes for the seat's back-mount covers found on the backrest. Be careful not to tear the leather in the process. An interesting provided detail are the screw covers that were provided for the screws on the seat's mount covers. The only tool we used as we assembled everything was the M8 Allen key Cougar includes in the chair's bundle.
