Packaging

As with most products of this type, the packaging is pretty important. Battery packs of this size tend to be quite hefty in weight and solar panels are somewhat fragile. As such, EBL ships both types of products in an outer shipping box, with the retail packaging within. In our case, EBL also put the box for the bag inside the package of the solar panel.

EBL uses a similar color theme to that of one of the bigger brands in the industry, be it for alignment or attention. The orange and black theme in general is something several brands use it seems, based on a quick search on Amazon. The package comes with a sturdy enough handle, should you end up picking one up in retail somewhere. EBL puts a picture of the device on the front as well as a photoshopped action shot on the back. No matter the brand, organizing real image assets for a product can be a whole day project. Thus one may be forgiven when wondering why many brands opt to badly edit stock photos instead. On the sides of the box, there is a spec table on one and a bit of education on what this unit could power on the other. The one thing that we noticed was the lack of any specific power and voltage protections, with the only mention being an overload protection power on the output side of 550 W +/- 40 W which kicks in if the plugged in devices end up drawing too much power all at once. Luckily, their US website also mentions short circuit protection for the device as well.

The unit is protected inside the retail box with solid foam spacers, which is nice to see. EBL packs the power supply and cables into a separate box to the side of the unit within.

The power supply is manufactured by Shenzen Xinspower Technology Co., Ltd. It comes with a two prong connector and is rated for 100 W. On the scale, it weighs in at just under 350 grams, which feels a bit light. In comparison the 90 W unit for another Power Station we reviewed clocks in at 380 grams and is from a known brand. While the unit supplied with the EBL Portable Power Station Voyager 500W will certainly work just fine and sports all the usual safety certificates, it simply isn't quite the same quality.

In addition to the power brick, you will find a connector for a solar panel to be connected to the DC input as well as a cigarette charger wire for the same input port. A manual rounds up the additional contents of the EBL Portable Power Station Voyager 500W.

The solar panel is protected within the package by two foam spacers on the side and a plastic bag. It also ships with a DC cable alongside various plug adapters as well as a PV cable. Both these leads are of sufficient length for you to be able to set up the whole system comfortably. It is clear that both the battery pack as well as the Solar Panel provide their own sets of cables so that they may be used with other products, which is a nice touch.
