EK sent over three individual units of the EK-Quantum Impulse 120 D-RGB fans as seen above. At the time of this review, these are available in black only although the note on the front of the product box suggests there may well be other colors on offer sooner than later. The company logo and product name are also seen here in addition to a larger render of the fan all lit up to show the various lighting zones on offer. On the back are technical details and specifications along with contact info for the company and a confirmation that these fans are designed in Slovenia, made in China. A QR code on the bottom leads you to an online user manual found here, and a seal helps keep the contents in place on their way to you.
Opening the box, we see that the items inside are packaged in a thick cardboard container with the fan inside a plastic wrap to help keep it dust-free and pristine. The attached cable and other accessories are seen in a folded compartment below, including a set of four metal self-tapping screws inside a plastic zip-lock bag. There are also two protective plastic seals on the fan's front and back central hubs for you to peel off before installation.
We'll get to that attached cable soon enough but note also the separate cable that ships with each fan. I do feel like EK is missing a trick on not having a 3-fan SKU since we really only need one of these extender cables for multiple fans together. What you get here is a 50 cm long cable that has a micro-fit 8-pin male connector on one end and terminates in two standard connectors on the other—a 4-pin PWM connector for the fan motor and a 3-pin 5 VDC connector for the fan LEDs. This allows for the EK-Quantum Impulse fans to be easily powered and controlled by your motherboard without needing any proprietary controller/software.
