After the super expensive Platimax line Enermax decided to enrich their PSU offerings with a more affordable line, which however is still classified as high-end. The fresh Revolution87+ series consists of five members with capacities ranging from 550W to 1000W, so all market segments are covered. All units are 80 Plus Gold certified and feature a semi-modular cabling design along with multiple +12V rails, four to be exact. Although their prices are lower than Platimax units, they still are considered expensive and unfortunately this is a typical characteristic of Enermax PSUs. Since Enermax is probably the only PSU OEM nowadays that sells its products under its own name (with LEPA being an exception of course), they have a high production cost which of course burdens the end consumer. It is simple as that, low production volume leads to increased prices. Probably the only good thing out of this is that since they rely solely on sales to end users, they try to satisfy their demands contrary to other OEMs that mainly listen to the demands of the third-party large retailers.

Today's test subject will be the second strongest Revolution87+ with 850W capacity. This unit shares the same cable configuration with the 1kW model, so it is equipped with six PCIe connectors and two EPS ones, with all being available at the same time. Also Enermax states that for a short period of time, only 60 seconds, this PSU can deliver 935W.
Nevertheless we are not going to encourage you to overstress this PSU (or any other), since so far we have seen quite a few blown PSUs during peak power output, with some of them being high-end. PSUs are not like CPUs/GPUs so forget overclocking them. If you need more power then simply buy a stronger PSU and ignore peak power. On the contrary pay attention to the full continuous power and at what temperature this can be delivered.
