Value and Conclusion

  • The Enermax PlatiGemini 1200 W can be found for $250.
  • Very high efficiency at low loads
  • Reasonably priced for a Platinum PSU
  • Very good ripple suppression
  • Effective semi-passive fan mode
  • Able to exceed full power delivery at ambient temperatures higher than 40°C
  • Good +12 V rail regulation
  • 10-year warranty
  • Could use an additional 12V-2x6 cable
  • Voltage regulation on the minor rails could be better
So what do we make of the first hybrid ATX 3.1 and ATX12VO power supply? On one hand, there's no denying that the PlatiGemini is a robust performer that powered through our tests with no real issues. If you're looking for a power supply with ATX12VO compatibility, or one that offers both traditional and modern features, the PlatiGemini is a great option. Thanks to its 10-year warranty it could definitely be called a future-proof product that is definitely worth considering.

However, supporting dual standards does come with a higher price. We've noticed that 80 Plus Gold ATX power supplies have become quite affordable. They use simpler designs to achieve high efficiency and offer solid overall performance. A few months ago we praised Enermax's own D.F. X 1200 W for delivering great value. The PlatiGemini 1200 W power supply unit has a Platinum efficiency rating, making it highly efficient, and it also offers hybrid capabilities. These features contribute to its significantly higher cost, placing it in the enthusiast category. However, its price remains competitive with similar products on the market. At the same time, it would be nice to see some better voltage regulation on the minor rails and have native connectivity options to support two GPUs that each require a 12VHPWR / 12V-2x6 cable. Other than those minor gripes, there isn't much to complain about, it's a very solid power supply.

In terms of alternatives, there really are no other options that check both the ATX 3.1 + ATX12VO compatibility boxes. If the hybrid mode is not necessary, other comparable alternatives could be the more expensive Corsair HX1200i ($320) or even the more powerful NZXT C1500 ($349).
If you are looking for a more budget friendly option, the previously reviewed Enermax REVOLUTION D.F. X 1200 W is still a great choice for the price of $160.
