Packaging and Accessories

As usual, the FiiO R7 comes in a thick cardboard box with a black base and glossy iridescent printing that changes color depending on the angle of viewing and incident light. At this point I am not surprised that FiiO products come in a larger product box than you would anticipate, but then again I had no idea how big the R7 was during the unboxing stage—it had arrived before the product page was up. On the front is the company logo and product name along with an outline of the product and its salient marketing features in addition to the expected Hi-Res Audio logos. The sides are sparse aside from the FiiO logo in its current iteration and some basic specifications on the back accompanied by contact information for the company. The lid lifts up and out to reveal the contents inside beginning with a thick piece of shaped foam that protects the R7 from the top, with a matching piece at the bottom. On the side is the accessory cardboard box in black which includes paperwork in the form of a quick start guide in English and Mandarin (online copy here) that is highly worth going through so you know how to set up and use the R7. There is also a warranty card as well as a note on how to use the provided base for the R7.

FiiO also includes a 3' long USB Type-A to Type-C cable—hurray for that, I'd rather everyone shy away from Type-B as soon as possible—as well as an AC mains power cable of which I have the UK version here. The lack of a standalone power supply indicates an integrated one inside the R7 itself. A separate plastic zip lock bag contains two different silicone bases that the R7 rests upon and the two differ in being either flat or angled. A set of double-sided tape, a 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm (1/4") adapter, a replacement fuse, and a dustproof plug for one of the headphone outputs completes the unboxing experience.
