Noctua NH D15 chromax.black
To go with the Fractal Design Torrent, Noctua was kind enough to provide us with their NH D15 chromax.black. As the name implies, this is an all-black variant of the classic D15, which we reviewed
here. While the cooler is essentially the same, several years have passed since the original has been launched. Thus, the unboxing experience is now a bit different with the chromax.black variant. The small parts of the cooler are all housed in one box on top of the cooler, which is in turn held inside another sturdy box next to the second fan. All of this is padded with foam all around.
Inside the top box, all the small parts are neatly organized, and even the mounting bars and screws are black to go with the color theme of the cooler.
The actual fin-stack and heatpipe setup of the NH D15 chromax.black is identical to that of the silver D15, but it sure looks great in all black. On the top fin, you can see the subtle Noctua branding as well. On the underside, the only silver spot is the base of the cooler—even the mounting hardware and screws are black.
Installing the unit has not changed at all, utilizing the same Secufirm 2 mounting kit that works perfectly even years and many sockets since it debuted.
Fractal Design Celsius+ S36 Prisma
In addition to the air cooler, we will be employing Fractal Design's own Celsius+ S36 Prisma 360 mm AIO to showcase how the Torrent will handle such a unit in the front of the chassis.
As the Fractal Design Torrent ships with two 180 mm fans in the front, you will also find a pair of mounting rails to convert that area of the chassis for either three 120 or 140 mm fans instead. Thus, to prep the Celsius+ S36 Prisma, we simply sandwiched them between the radiator and fans. With that done, let's get back to our regularly scheduled program.
