Value & Conclusion

  • The 16 GB (4x 4GB) G.Skill RipjawsX 2133 MHz C9 kit is available for $155.99.
  • XMP Support for 4th Gen Intel Core CPUs and Z87-based motherboards as well as older systems
  • Great performance using the XMP profile
  • XMP profile for Haswell-based systems only uses 1.60 V
  • Excellent compatibility with aftermarket heatsinks
  • Large heatsink capable of running in extreme environments
  • Wide compatibility with all current systems
  • Simple, nearly mono-chromatic esthetic that suits a wide range of other enthusiast parts
  • Limited overclocking (may be a BIOS issue)
  • Color scheme may not match all system builds
  • Requires a "boosted" voltage to run on older systems
I am rather impressed by this memory kit. Performing better across nearly the entire board over running 1600 MHz, even if it is only slight at times, performance is exactly where I expected it to be for 2133 MHz. Although its overclocking abilities are rather limited in my test system, performance was good enough to often compare to much faster, significantly more expensive kits I have reviewed in the past.

Having this kit populate all four slots of my ASUS MAXIMUS VI EXTREME motherboard allowed it to surpass the much more expensive G.Skill TridentX kit in most tests, which highlights the benefits of using every DIMM slot on your motherboard nicely. While it doesn't prove true in all situations, it definitely does so with memory based on current single-sided 4 GB sticks, as my testing using the JEDEC 1600 MHz profile showed four sticks to be faster than two in nearly every single test.

If you are not running a Haswell-based system, this kit will still perform very well, although it does require slightly more voltage to do so. That might seem like a downer, and it kind of is, but its Z87-based profile only uses 1.6 V, and not many other CAS 9 2133 MHz kits on the market can say the same, nor are they as affordable as this kit. If you are looking for a good 16 GB kit to install into an ASUS ROG motherboard for 24/7 use, don't overlook this kit. Its esthetics look great, and the sticks will work just as well if you use any other brand of motherboard, though the colors might not match. Need help getting your kit set up? Let me know!
