G.SKILL Ripjaws 2666 MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM Review

A Closer Look

The G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR4 SO-DIMM has stickers on either side of the DIMM, one side for looks, the other for the label. All four sticks are identical on both sides.

The label clearly mentions the speed, timings, and voltage of these sticks, plus the total size of the kit. The other side of the stick totally changes appearances without the need for a label with specifications getting in the way.

It looks like our sample kit is double-sided, with two rows of memory ICs on each side (for a total of eight per side). The Ripjaws 2666 MHz SO-DIMMs are a standard SO-DIMM size, good for both laptops and other PC devices that use 260-pin DDR4 SO-DIMMs.

Our kit is rated for 2666 MHz with 18-18-18-43 timings and a voltage of 1.2V. There are four sticks in this kit, making for a total of 32 GB. It's also a fresh kit, minted in November, 2017.

I always look at the ends of memory sticks for something interesting. Because you can just pull up the sticker to figure out which memory chips are within these kits, this isn't as important here.

However, it seems on the extreme end of PC enthusiasts, we've got a little bit of talk about which PCB is the best for overclocking, so anything of value here might be worth paying attention to, yet there's nothing exciting to be found on these sticks. They do seem to have a different design than the 3800 MHz kits that are touted to match our test platform, so I don't expect to reach those types of clocks when pushing these sticks higher for fun...
