The Package
The Yuin G1 clip-on headphones ship in a small black box with the headphones and accessories tightly packed inside.
The G1s come with a good and well thought out bundle. You get both a 1/8" to 1/4" jack adapter and a spare set of foam covers. The two sets of foam covers are identical so you do not get the option to go with a thicker or thinner pair of foam cushions.
Closer Examination
These new clip-ons from Yuin feature a brushed aluminum look. The design is pretty decent. Although they are not the prettiest headphones on the market they are certainly not the ugliest. The clip-on design works reasonably well with the Yuin G1s because of the shape of the clip. It is arched so that it follows the contours of your ear which makes them comfortable to wear even over an extended period of time, so in that respect the clip is a worthy substitution for a headband, but only because G1s are so light.
The Yuin G1's hook system is a bit different than what we are used to seeing. The clip itself is more anatomically correct and provides a much safer and more comfortable fit. As you can see on the pictures above, the G1's design is really thin. That combined with the fact that they are light weight means that you do not feel awkward while wearing them.
The ear clip is only connected to the ear piece via small pivot joint. There is no clamping force being exerted by the clip on your ear so they are very comfortable to wear.
The Yuin G1's rely on a new driver from Yuin. The amount of information on it is pretty scarce at the moment. The only specification I have seen is that it is a 150 Ohm driver. This is exactly why Head-Direct has decided to throw in a Fiio E3 portable amplifier with each G1 purchase for free!
This is top notch because you get what is the best bang for the buck portable amplifier at the moment and a pair of top performing clip-ons.
With each set of G1s you get two sets of foam covers. The foam pads are held in place by small pins near the edge of the disk part of the headphone, and it actually makes them quite hard to remove. Removing pads is not something you do on a daily basis, but after a couple of months of use it is probably a good idea to pull them of and wash them if you carry them around in your back pack. The foam tends to suck up dirt no matter you put them.
The type of foam used is acoustically transparent so it should not affect the sound quality. The disk design of the Yuin G1s is the same as that of the Koss KSC75 so you can use pads that are compatible with the Koss's as well, which is great if you want to use a set of thicker pads.
Like with all the other high end Yuin headphones you get a 1/8" to 1/4" jack adapter.
