Introduction

The last time we covered a HyperX keyboard was in 2019, with the Alloy Origins, a full-size keyboard that launched at the same time as their own switches. Much has changed since, including the release of more keyboards and their awaited HyperX Aqua tactile switch. Perhaps the biggest change of all was the acquisition of the entire HyperX brand by HP announced earlier this year, with the process due to be completed later this year. At the time of this review, HyperX marketing is still working as per usual, with a continued interest in my covering the brand further. So here we are with the first of three new HyperX keyboard reviews coming up on TechPowerUp, and thanks again to the company for sending the review samples!


I know that the Alloy Origins 60 is their newest keyboard, and I was in two minds about whether to start with it. But I have been covering so many 60% keyboards recently that I wanted to, and even relished, the opportunity to do something different to start off the HyperX keyboard series for 2021. The Alloy Origins Core, which is the subject of this review, is also a natural progression from the Alloy Origins in two ways. First, it is built upon the same base the full-size Alloy Origins established, and it is a TKL version of the design. Second, this model came with the HyperX Aqua switches, the same tactile switches I wanted to check out with the Alloy Origins, but they were not yet ready at the time.
