Introduction

I-Rocks Logo

i-Rocks is a Taiwanese company that does not seem to know the best way to call itself, with mentions of irocks, i-rocks, i-Rocks, and even iRocks on their website and social media. But don't let this inconsistency fool you, the company has never shied from making products that are different from the usual, and often fun and innovative in ways I want to see adopted more often. It has been nearly three years since our last i-Rocks keyboard review here, and even then we saw a LEGO-compatible frame keyboard as well as an electrocapacitive keyboard with a removable see-through top with printed inserts. I had mentioned the latter in a recent review of another such electrocapacitive keyboard which got me thinking about the brand again, and I am glad for it since their website and product portfolio have since been revamped with more interesting products to check out, in addition to the snazzy new logo seen above. We take a look at their K71M keyboard today, and thanks again to i-Rocks for sending a review sample to TechPowerUp!

You might think that the USP is the angled light bar and case, but I dare say the real one is stealthily just being a tease in the stock photo above. Sure, that angled case offers a different aesthetic from the usual rectangular design, which i-Rocks complements with a plastic light diffuser that not only extends past the top, but goes all the way around the keyboard to provide for dynamic side lighting to complement the now-expected RGB backlighting on similar keyboards. I will save the most interesting bit for later, but will say that it ties into the dedicated media and volume controls on this full-size keyboard. As per usual, we begin the review with a look at the specifications in the table below.
