The ICY DOCK MB881US-1S-1 EZ-DOCK is a refreshing approach to the crowded external hard drive enclosure principle. It offers the user the ability to take a 2.5 inch drive on the road and use it just like a standard enclosure or employ it as a desktop stand for easy swapping between drives. Due to the construction you can also choose to use either 2.5 or 3.5 inch drives and ICY DOCK includes every cable necessary, along with the bonus of an eSATA bracket - which is not something you can simply expect to see as part of the package with eSATA equipped units. That said, there are a few aspects which really put a shadow on the overall experience. The power brick is rather large, reminiscent of the units we see shipped with budget enclosures. Also the price performance ratio is nothing to brag about. While it is great to have the functionality and flexibility mentioned above along with some unique esthetics, a price of well above 50 US Dollars after taxes coupled with mediocre USB 2.0 performance may be a deal breaker for some. Especially with eSATA/USB 2.0 combo enclosures starting at just half the price of the EZ-DOCK. You will have to ask yourself if the flexibility and given functionality outweigh the lack of USB 2.0 performance and hefty price tag.
