In Win NA eSATA & USB Enclosure Review

Performance

USB 2.0

The In Win NA offers USB 2.0 and eSATA connectivity. We will focus on the USB 2.0 aspect, but also check if eSATA performs as expected. On top of that, we will check how much CPU utilization the entire unit requires during the HD Tach test.

HD Tach gives us a constant performance from the inner to outer area of the hard drive. 31.1 MB/s is not bad at all, it just does not look so great in our graph, as most enclosures manage to push the limit of the USB 2.0 interface. Still considering the difference from the fastest and slowest enclosure, the NA manages to position itself right in the center of the performance spectrum.

ATTO Disk Bench confirms the HD Tach read benchmarks and also gives us a good look at the write performance. Both are almost identical, which means that the NA has a very good write performance, being faster than most other enclosures we have reviewed.

eSATA

To make sure that the enclosure delivers on the eSATA front as well, we simply take a look at the read speeds. As you can see, the unit performs very similar to an internal drive. The performance diminishes the further away we get from the center of the platter, but at no time do we dip below the USB 2.0 speeds.
