Building the Explorer

While this is usually where we take a closer look at the exterior of a chassis, in the case of the Explorer, we first need to build it. Doing so centers around following through on a few steps in the manual and using case screws to hold the parts together. The first step is to attach the rear metal panel to the floor of the Enclosure.

Next, you need to utilize the plastic frames of the side panels. InWin ships them with the glass panels attached, but thanks to their signature push pins, you may take them off the frames without any tools.

Each glass panel has slightly curved edges and is 3 mm thick. Theses panels aren't tinted, so you will be able to see all the parts within the system clearly when done.

The rest of the steps revolve around placing the top of the case. With that done, place the front while using one of the side-panel frames to hold it all together with screws along the way. Once all four sides are in place, you will have to flip it over and put the second frame in place, thus essentially completing the structural build of the InWin Explorer.

There are two sets of long stands on which the chassis will sit. These clip into the underside of the enclosure to start. Screws are meant to hold them in place better, but those provided simply chew through the soft plastic and don't really do much else. Rubber standoffs then cover those screw holes and ensure the case doesn't scrape against the table. At this point, there is only one metal part left to install, which is the white ATX PSU frame that goes into the front of the chassis. That said, you will have to remove it again immediately just to populate it with a power supply, so feel free to skip this step.

Lastly, the power supply cable is routed through the appropriate opening in the back of the InWin Explorer, with its exterior end screwed down. With that done, the internal lead is clipped along the ceiling of the case to reach the PSU, which is a pretty nifty idea.
