Initial Setup
By taking some photos with the system on, we can see the RGB lighting implementation in action. Unlike the CRAS XR5 reviewed previously, which had a quite unique diffuser, the CRAS V sticks to a more standard look with a light bar diffuser sandwiched between the heatspreaders. Individual LEDs cannot be seen through the diffuser, but the space in between is distinctly darker. This does not change based on the viewing angle. Though, unless a static color option is chosen this is likely to go unnoticed.
Enabling EXPO / XMP Profile
The KLEVV CRAS V RGB 8000 MT/s memory kit had no stability issues during the testing phase. However, a quick reminder that compatibility will greatly depend on the motherboard OEM. From testing various motherboards, it is advised to only use this memory with select Intel Z790 based motherboards and an Intel 13th / 14th Generation (K) Processor. This is because Z690 motherboards are not validated to support 8000 MT/s by the motherboard manufacturer. In fact, only two Z690 candidates are likely to achieve this frequency without resorting to XOC tactics; Gigabyte Z690 Tachyon and the EVGA Z690 Dark.
Using a 12th Generation (K) Processor is out of the question. Besides using exotic cooling and going well beyond daily safe voltages for the CPU, 12th Gen is not a option. This is because the Intel 12th Gen CPU internal memory controller (IMC) limitation lands anywhere between 6800 MT/s and 7400 MT/s using voltages that are good for daily usage. Many Z790 motherboards can also be problematic as well, and it is suggested to only use 2-DIMM motherboards like the ASUS Z790 Apex, Gigabyte Z790 Tachyon or EVGA Z790 Dark when targeting 8000 MT/s and above. As always, for best results, it is suggested to seek out the motherboard manufacturer's memory QVL list.
