Pretty much all SSDs sold today use MLC flash technology simply because it reduces cost per gigabyte which results in a lower price for you and higher margins/more drives sold for manufacturers and retailers. While this approach might work for mass-market consumers, it is not good enough for some enterprises or hardcore enthusiasts because they want to have the best SSD available, which makes cost a secondary concern.
That's why I have to applaud Mach Xtreme for making the bold move of offering an SLC-based SSD. In our testing, we see amazing results that easily beat any other SSD we have ever tested. A single MX DS Turbo SLC will be faster than most dual-SSD RAID 0 configurations because SLC reduces latency, while RAID 0 only increases transfer rate. Typical daily-usage patterns benefit more from lower latency than higher transfer-rates, which are already high enough with SATA 6 Gbps.
Compared to your standard run of the mill MLC SSD, the DS Turbo also promises better durability because SLC flash can generally take more erase cycles. This is supported by the fact that Mach Xtreme includes a five-year warranty with their drive.
Now the bad news: The 120 GB DS Turbo SLC costs $279, which is more than twice the cost of a "normal" 120 GB SSD. You could, looking at it in another way, get a 240 GB MLC SSD for the same amount of money. Doubling the price for a 4-5% performance increase is certainly not for everyone, but SSD pricing has gone down so much that it's not unreasonable to spend 300 bucks on a fast storage device after spending 1000 dollars on the graphics card. It is, after comparing the drive with other SLC offers, a real steal. The MX SD Turbo SLC costs about $3.30 per GB. Competing, enterprise-specific SSDs sit in the $5 to $10 per GB range, and consumer-typical MLC SSDs are going for $1 to $1.30 per GB. These choices give you the additional option of focusing on either cost or performance with your next SSD purchase.
