Shape

Describing the shape of the R.A.T. 8+ ADV is complicated by the fact that the shape can be customized in several ways. The back may be extended, the right-side panel swapped for one with a different profile, and the position and angle of the left-side panel is adjustable, too. Still, some key components of the shape are in place no matter what. The R.A.T. 8+ ADV is a notably wide mouse, but not that long relative to its width. The lack of a centered hump or any kind of slope is noticeable, as is the lack of any flares, or anything else of the sort. In terms of overall ergonomics, the R.A.T. 8+ ADV works surprisingly well—all buttons are readily in reach without having to change grip. The thumb rest on the left side is permanently attached, but thankfully, the so-called "precision aim" button is out of the way. While it took me some time to get used to, I was positively surprised by how well the R.A.T. 8+ ADV handled in practice.

As for grip styles, I'd say the R.A.T. 8+ ADV generally suits palm and claw grip, more or less dependent on which back cover is installed. It's a medium-sized but incredibly wide mouse with a barely pronounced hump, which should make it generally suitable for most hand sizes. For reference, my hands are 19 cm long and 10 cm wide, and I found the R.A.T. 8+ ADV quite comfortable in claw grip.
