2024 really seems to be the year of DIY headphones, with a lot of single-man operations putting out models that are aiming to challenge products from larger, far more established brands. We've seen this before, with the likes of Dan Clark Audio and ZMF, followed by Nectar Sound and Mod House Audio too. I am thus optimistic that the creators of today will grow and have their own team in the future, so I am happy to give them a leg up this journey when I can. Today we talk about Munich-based Homero and his brand MIRPH Designs via the MIRPH-1 headphones.


The MIRPH Designs MIRPH-1, which I'll refer to henceforth simply as MIRPH-1 for convenience, is an open-back, over-ear dynamic driver set of headphones. I first tried it at CanJam London earlier this summer, where it was just lying on a table surrounded by far more expensive equipment. I didn't even know what the MIRPH-1 was, but by the end of the show many attendees were talking positively about the set. Homero reached out to me personally and inquired whether I'd be up to do a review of the MIRPH-1, which of course I said yes to given open-back headphones generally sound their worst at louder audio shows. The goal with the MIRPH-1 is to offer a warm and smooth sound, which made me think the title image I chose above works perfectly. Homero makes sure the MIRPH-1 is modular, with a user-friendly design and easily replaceable parts, allowing easy mods and/or repairs at home as needed to help increase the product lifetime.
