Out of the box, the Montech Flyer makes a refreshingly good first impression. The chassis frame is solid, and the white paint job is a great glossy finish. While the front is made out of plastic, the construction is pretty solid. Interestingly enough, Montech has chosen to utilize acrylic as a side panel for the Flyer, which is unfortunate. There are plenty of brands that manage to offer glass panels with cases of this price segment, so I see no reason why Montech did not. On top of that, the panel is extremely dark, so you won't really see much even if it is well lit.
A 1–2 inch wide strip on the right side of the front acts as a basic air vent next to an RGB strip. While this is not an issue in the black variant of the Flyer, you can clearly see the opening in the white plastic on our review unit. You may pull it off to reveal a single pre-installed 120 mm fan in this area. Montech mentions that you are able to install up to two such fans here, but the metal frame clearly comes with 140 mm mounting holes as well. In fact, if you look closely, you can see mounting holes at the very top and bottom of the metal frame for both 120 and 140 mm fans, so I would argue that you will likely be able to fit up to three 120 mm fans as well. However, for it to work, you may have to use different screws.
In the rear, the chassis looks quite traditional with the PSU bay on the bottom.
As mentioned, the enclosure ships with an acrylic panel that is held in place by four thumb screws, while the other side is completely solid. This one is actually secured by white thumb screws, which is a nice little attention to detail.
The PSU bay in the rear comes with a single set of mounting screws, so you will always have the fan of the unit facing downward. Above that are the four motherboard expansion slots. Only the very top expansion slot comes with a reusable cover, while the other three are of the breakout kind. In the very top is a basic, but quite sturdy 120 mm exhaust fan.
In the top, you will find a black dust filter with magnetic strips. Underneath of it, Montech has placed mounting holes for two 120 mm fans or a 240 mm liquid-cooling setup. They have been moved to the side, so your motherboard should not interfere with any such configuration. The Flyer ships with two USB 2.0 as well as a single USB 3.0 port alongside the usual audio I/O and case buttons. There is also an additional toggle in the front to allow you cycle through the RGB lighting.
A metal mesh layer has been put on the underside, right over the opening for the PSU, to prevent bigger dust particles from entering the system over time.
