The Package
The Brainwavz BLU-200 ships in a very small box that is packed to the rim.
The BLU-200's bundle is excellent, especially for its price of just $54.50. You get a clam-shell type carrying case and three sets of regular and a set of Comply S-400 foam tips. There are also two sets of soft rubber ear hooks and a charging cable.
Closer Examination
Design- and material-wise, the BLU-200 is well executed. Its aluminum casings look great and seem pretty durable. The short cable that connects the two ear pieces is equally well made and feels like that of other Brainwavz in-ears despite probably having a few more leads in it.
Brainwavz clearly designed the cable solution with a behind-the-head route in mind. The small adjuster allows you to take up slack, which is essential if you plan on exercising with it.
These ear pieces have a diameter of around 13mm where it matters. While pretty large, these protrude straight up and out, which avoids any conflicts with my ears. Here your mileage may vary, though, as no two ears are completely alike.
There is a small metal grill that protects the drivers from debris through the canal. Since it is made of metal, you can clean it, but whether these are better than the user-replaceable filt covers is up for debate.
One of the things Brainwavz nails with the BLU-200 is the remote/microphone. The remote is of an adequate size and the microphone sounds alright considering its less-than-optimal position in terms of picking up sound. The remote works well, and you can even opt to operate it without removing an ear piece after you've gotten used to it.
