The Package

The Brainwavz M2 comes in a neat little cardboard box. Inside the earphones are held in place by a piece of foam. The packaging will survive anything but being crushed.


Since we got a pre-production unit the bundle is slightly limited. The bundle for the final product will consist of the following items: three sets of silicone tips (S/M/L), three sets of foam tips (S/M/L), earhooks, carrying pouch, shirt clip.


The shirt clip supplied with the M2s is quite nice and definitely helps to reduce unwanted microphonic noise from the cable.

Closer Examination

These earphones look great. Their aluminum housing with black plastic features gives them a solid and modern look.


Although barely visible each earpiece has a small etched R/L to indicate which is which. The strain relief is quite long, and due to issues with the adhesive used they come off quite easily on the pre-production samples. This issue is resolved on the production units.


The tip hook system is the same as that featured on the majority of dynamic driver based in-ear on the market today. This means that you can use Comply T400 tips on the Brainwavz M2 without any modification needed.


One of the interesting things about the M2 design is that it uses two compound tips. The stem of the tip is made from a harder material than the flange part of it. The stem also narrows near the exit which makes the exit smaller than with other comparable tips.


One of the most impressive features of the M2 is the extremely rugged cable. Surprisingly enough microphonic noise is not nearly as bad as you would think with this type of cable. The only downside to this cable is that it is wound in a way that makes it want to curl up. The jack is quite unusual since it features a 45 degree exit angle.
