Introduction

MSI has a long history of making highest-end enthusiast graphics cards for overclockers. Their "Lightning" series has seen several models, the latest being GTX 580 Lightning. Today MSI releases their new GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition. The Xtreme Edition Lightning features 3 GB of memory instead of the 1.5 GB on the "normal" Lightning. It also comes with an improved thermal solution that adds a dust removal feature and color changing fan (based on temperature). In terms of clocks nothing has changed on the MSI Lightning Xtreme Edition, they are the same as on the regular MSI GTX 580 Lightning. We asked MSI for a final retail price of their GTX 580 Lightning Extreme Edition, but they haven't got back to us yet. We estimate the price of the new Lightning Xtreme at $600.
