Custom Design Cards
Will will have close to ten reviews of custom-design GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER graphics cards, but at the time of this writing (early January), we could only snap pictures of three of the first arrivals to our doorstep. These include the Gainward RTX 4070 SUPER Ghost; the Palit RTX 4070 SUPER JetStream; and the PNY RTX 4070 Velocity-X OC.
The Gainward RTX 4070 SUPER Ghost box opens sideways to reveal an inner hard paperboard box that opens out like a pizza box. A sceptre looms over the front face. Spooky.
We really like the minimalist board design of the Gainward Ghost. A simple 2-slot card that you install and forget about. An aluminium fin-stack heatsink spans the length of the card, which is ventilated by a pair of fans. A small acrylic diffuser on the top has some RGB lighting that color cycles by default. We expect the Gainward Ghost to be priced close (or at) to the $599 NVIDIA MSRP.
The PNY RTX 4070 Velocity-X OC comes in a single layered box that opens out like a pizza box. Quite a few PSUs come in boxes of this shape. The front face has a picture of the card that's inside.
The PNY Velocity-X OC is another MSRP-priced card, and comes with a simple 2-slot design for maximum case compatibility. Much like the Gainward Ghost, it has an aluminium fin-stack heatsink, and a pair of fans.
The Palit RTX 4070 SUPER JetStream is the only premium overclocked card we have at the time of writing this article. Much like the Gainward Ghost, this thing comes in a large 2-layered package, with a thinner outer box that has all the fancy artwork; and a harder inner paperboard box.
The Palit JetStream is a beast, with its triple-slot cooler that has a heavy aluminium fin-stack heatsink, and a triple fan setup to ventilate it. There's likely a large factory overclock that comes with this card, which pushes it a touch closer to the performance levels of the now retired RTX 4070 Ti. There's a significant pricing gap between the RTX 4070 SUPER and RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, of roughly $200, which should give board partners plenty of room to price their premium overclocked cards.
