NZXT Source 340 Review

A Closer Look - Inside

Taking a look at the interior, it is actually quite simple and open. NZXT covered up the bottom area, including the PSU bay, and placed a white metal cover across where other cases usually use grommets. This is an interesting approach as it creates another unique visual aspect while giving the chassis more room for cable management.

The Source 340 offers a mere 16 mm at its tightest spot, while the trench gives you an additional 25 mm at its lower end. While the top comes with even more space, every cable you route will have to go through the shallower part of the metal trench, so the space there is more for show and easy access instead of cable management.

A single piece of bent metal in the same matte look as the rest of the interior divides the chassis in two. NZXT also placed two 2.5" trays on top of it to make good use of the space, which allows you to showcase any SSDs you have running within your system nicely. These are the same trays as on the backside of the motherboard tray in other NZXT enclosures.

In the front, underneath the metal cover, is a simple HDD cage for up to two 3.5" drives. A third mounting position has also been put on the floor of the chassis. Above it are the large dust filter and two 120 mm or 140 mm fan-mounting possibilities. You may also install a 240 mm or 280 mm radiator there instead. According to NZXT, doing so will reduce the maximum length a graphics card may have to 334 mm, which is still plenty.

The PSU bay in the rear bears no surprises. The same goes for everything else as the seven expansion slots are of the normal variety and there is a 120 mm exhaust fan. Part of the FN V2 series, it is also available in retail - a basic, but capable unit, it usually retails for around 8 euro / 10 US dollars.

In the top, the same fan is used to, once again, push hot air out of the Source 340. It would have been a nice touch of NZXT to include a 140 mm variant there instead, but most users will be happy to see two fans in a chassis of this price segment.

Last but not least, all the cables within the Source 340 are sleeved black and of the default variety.
